Independent Review for Port Meadow
10th July 2013
Oxford City Council has announced an Independent Review into the University accommodation development at Port Meadow.
CPRE Oxfordshire welcomes this news as a long overdue step.
It has taken months of hard campaigning but Oxford City Council has finally faced up to the fact that there are just too many questions to answer over the development at Port Meadow and have decided to hold an Independent Review.
Naturally, CPRE will be keeping a close eye on how the Inspector is chosen and the Review’s terms of reference to ensure it really is independent. However, we hope it will help to get to the bottom of issues such as lack of consultation, ignoring of heritage advice and contamination concerns. One of our major campaign aims has been to ensure that such mistakes are never made again, and the Review will be an important part of this process.
What the Review won’t change is the fact that the buildings are near completion and the damage has already been done.
CPRE Oxfordshire is still waiting to hear the outcome of its request to seek a Judicial Review of the decision not to seek a full Environmental Impact Assessment for the development.
Thank you to all those who have supported the campaign so far. Please help us to keep up the pressure!
