CPRE Countryside Day – 7th September
21st August 2024
Countryside Day is the CPRE network’s new annual celebration of rural England, inspiring us to protect and promote it for future generations and nature with lots of different activities organised by CPRE local groups all over England.
This year, CPRE local groups Oxfordshire and Berkshire have organised a joint cross-border event, putting on a day of walks, talks and activities in Goring and Streatley, based at Goring Village Hall between 10am and 4pm.
The morning walk will be a 2-hour circular route that includes local landmark Streatley Hill, with opportunities for “forest bathing” and mindfulness exercises – and stunning views of the Berkshire Downs. Led by experience walk leaders Walk Work, this promises to be an excellent way to explore the unspoilt beauty and heritage of the rural landscape of the area.
In the afternoon, we’re offering a 45-minute family-friendly nature walk along the banks of the Thames.
On the edge of two National Landscapes – the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs – and with two National Trails running through the area – the ancient Ridgeway and the Thames Path – the countryside of Goring and Streatley represents rural England at its most stunning.
Tea/coffee and soft drinks will be served during the morning, and in the afternoon there will be a traditional Afternoon Tea with locally-made cakes.
Participation in CPRE’s Countryside Day is free of charge but we encourage donations towards CPRE’s work which can be made in cash on the day. However, we do ask for registration in advance so that we can plan accordingly! We are also looking for volunteers who can help serve refreshments, assist the walk leaders, or help the branch office team with the stalls and displays at Goring Village Hall. So, if you would like to participate, please call email cpreberkshire@btopenworld.com or drop a line to CPRE Berkshire, Englefield Estate Office Annex, Englefield Road, Theale, Berkshire RG7 5DU.
