CPRE Oxfordshire gets stuck in with the Hedgerow Heroes

10th January 2025
Last month, some of the team from CPRE Oxfordshire took a trip out of the office to lend a hand at a Hedgerow Heroes hedge planting session in Oddington.
It’s amazing how much progress could be made in such a short time. Working together with Wild Oxfordshire and some local volunteers, and later joined by local charity FarmAbility we managed to create 200m of new hedgerow. Many hands make light work!
The hedges were a mix of hawthorn and other native shrubs, and the tree guards we used are made from entirely natural materials so no plastic pollution.

Alongside rejuvenating existing hedgerow, planting new hedges is a key part of the Hedgerow Heroes project, providing food and habitat for wildlife, including birds and mammals, boosting biodiversity. Hedges also help with pollination and pest control, reduce flood risk, conserve soil and capture and store carbon so they are crucial in the face of the climate emergency. There will be more Hedgerow Hero action in the new year so get in touch if you want to find out more
